FC Barcelona has revealed a special jersey for Saturday’s huge El Clasico against Real Madrid.
The Catalan club unveiled the shirt on Friday, as they will honor club legend Johan Cruyff who died at the age of 68 last week.
Stitched into the front of each jersey will be the message: “Gracies Johan” which simply translates to “Thank You Johan.”
Cruyff was first a legendary player at Barcelona, then returned to the Nou Camp as manager as he won four La Liga titles and their first-ever European Cup in 1992.
The revolutionary Dutchman then helped turn Barca into one of the great forces of the modern game as his philosophy of open, attacking soccer was implemented at the club and he set up the now famous La Masia academy which has seen the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi graduate from and then go on to greatness.
El Clasico is always an emotional encounter for fans of Barcelona and Real Madrid but this Saturday’s encounter in La Liga will be even more emotional as a club legend is honored.
Barcelona is planning many more tributes to Cruyff in the build-up to Saturday’s game, with a four-day memorial already taking place at the Nou Camp and a mosaic will be held up just before kick off to honor Cruyff’s legacy in the Catalan capital.
Here’s a look at the new jersey which will be worn by Barcelona’s players on Saturday.
